Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 14, 2026

Your data stays in your browser. All tool processing is done client-side. We never send your text, files, or tool inputs to our servers.

1Overview

At CommonTools ("we", "our", or "us"), your privacy is our top priority. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit commontools.pro (the "Site"), how we use it, and the choices you have.

The short version: most of our tools process data entirely inside your browser. Nothing you type into a tool is ever sent to our servers.

2Information We Collect

a) Information you provide directly

We do not require you to create an account or provide personal information to use any tool on CommonTools. If you contact us via email or a contact form, we will collect the name and email address you provide solely to respond to your enquiry.

b) Automatically collected information

When you visit the Site, we may automatically receive:

  • IP address (anonymised where possible)
  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system
  • Pages visited and time spent on each page
  • Referring URL
  • Date and time of your visit

This data is collected through server logs and analytics tools (see Analytics below) and is used only in aggregate form to improve our Site.

c) Tool input data

All text, URLs, files, and other input you enter into CommonTools tools is processed locally in your browser. This data is never transmitted to our servers, stored, or logged. The only exception is network-based tools (e.g., DNS Lookup, IP Address Checker), which must send a query to our API endpoint to retrieve live data; in those cases only the queried domain name or IP address is transmitted, never any other personal information.

3Cookies & Local Storage

We use a minimal set of cookies and browser local storage:

_ga, _gidGoogle Analytics — anonymous page-view statisticsUp to 2 years
ct_themeSaves your colour-scheme preference1 year
localStorageStores recent tool settings (e.g., QR size, password options) for convenienceUntil cleared

You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. Disabling cookies will not affect the core functionality of any tool on the Site.

4Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors interact with the Site. GA4 collects anonymised usage data (pages viewed, session duration, browser info) and does not collect personally identifiable information.

We have enabled IP anonymisation in our GA4 configuration. Google's data processing is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

You may opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

5Advertising

CommonTools may display advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google may use cookies to show personalised ads based on your browsing history across websites. You can manage your ad personalisation preferences via Google Ad Settings.

We do not share any personal data with advertisers. Ads are displayed based solely on contextual and/or anonymised interest signals.

6Third-Party Services

The Site integrates the following third-party services:

  • Google Analytics 4 — analytics (see above)
  • Google AdSense — advertising (see above)
  • Vercel / hosting provider — our infrastructure provider may log basic request data (IP, user-agent) for security and reliability purposes

These services have their own privacy policies and we encourage you to review them.

7Data Retention

We retain server logs and analytics data for a maximum of 14 months. Contact enquiry data is retained for up to 12 months after the enquiry is resolved, then permanently deleted. Tool input data is never retained because it never leaves your browser.

8Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to access the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification of inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Right to restrict or object to processing
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to withdraw consent at any time

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.

9Children's Privacy

CommonTools is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

10Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the limited data we collect. All traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted using TLS (HTTPS). However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
